This impressive icon of Jesus Christ Pantocrator of Sinai is a faithful reproduction of the famous 6th-century icon from the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine at Mount Sinai — the oldest surviving example of the Pantocrator type.

What makes this icon truly unique is the decorative iron cross hanging from a brass chain at the bottom, adding depth, texture, and a sense of historical authenticity to this sacred work of art.

The aged carved wooden surface, secured with bronze nails, perfectly complements the timeless Byzantine tradition, inspiring faith and spiritual reflection.

🔹 Artistic Process

All of our icons are faithful reproductions of authentic Byzantine prototypes. They are created using high-quality lithographic printing on paper mounted onto canvas, which is then carefully adhered to solid fir wood — never MDF. Each piece is individually enhanced by hand using our signature aging technique and protected with an eco-friendly water-based varnish for maximum durability over time.

Every piece is unique and may present slight variations due to the handmade process.

We use only solid natural wood for authenticity and durability — never MDF.

Alexander Stratoulis is an official member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece. All design and finishing work is carried out in the GENESIS workshop using our signature artistic aging technique.

🔹 About the History of the Icon

Christ Pantocrator from the Monastery of Saint Catherine at Mount Sinai is considered the oldest surviving Byzantine icon of Christ, dating back to the 6th century AD.

The icon powerfully expresses the dual nature of Christ as both God and man. The left side of His face from His perspective — the viewer’s right — emphasizes His human nature, while the right side from His perspective — the viewer’s left — expresses His divinity.

His right hand is raised in blessing, while His left hand holds the Holy Gospel, symbolizing His authority as Judge and Savior.

The icon survived the period of Byzantine Iconoclasm thanks to the remote location of Saint Catherine’s Monastery in the Sinai desert. Its geographical isolation and historic protection allowed many early Christian icons to be preserved while others were destroyed elsewhere.

Today, Christ Pantocrator of Sinai remains one of the most important and most studied works of Byzantine art, inspiring Orthodox Christians and art historians throughout the world.
